St. Catharines is helping residents move around the city safely and reliably with investments keeping roads in a good state of repair.
The City plans to resurface the asphalt on Vansickle Road between Mac Turnbull Drive and Pelham Road in 2026. This project will also improve walking and cycling options along the corridor from St. Paul Street West to Pelham Road, as recommended in the City's Active Transportation Master Plan. Detailed designs will focus on traffic calming along the full corridor from St. Paul Street West to Pelham Road.
Planned improvements include:
The detailed designs maintain existing on-street parking and include markers for safe snow plowing, new catch basins for proper drainage.
As part of this project, the City studied opportunities to enhance the corridor from St. Paul Street West to Pelham Road through the implementation of active transportation facilities, in alignment with the City's Active Transportation Master Plan and Rapid Implementation Network.
Two options were considered:
We presented these options at a Public Information Centre March 10, 2026 and collected feedback from residents. A total of 38 responses were received.
Based on the feedback, the preferred option is to maintain on-street parking and implement traffic calming measures.
