The City of St. Catharines' Maintenance of Grasses and Weeds By-law regulates the length of grasses and weeds on your property. You are required to cut or remove grasses and weeds that are 20 cm or higher. This applies to both your property and the abutting boulevard.
You can submit a by-law infraction complaint if a property has weeds or grasses that exceed 20 cm in height. You can report an issue around weeds and tall grass online.
Once we receive a complaint, we'll follow these steps:
If at any point during the process the long grass and weeds are cut by the property owner, we will close the complaint and take no further action.
Depending on the size of your property, the following fees will apply:
We will charge an additional $476.85 for each acre over 2 acres.
The City may choose to hire a contractor to cut tall grasses and weeds. If this is the case, you'll be charged the contractor fees plus an administrative fee of $175.90.
