Last week the city received a number of complaints related to the property located at 285 Ontario Street. Upon receiving those complaints, as a matter of course, the City conducted an inspection of the property. Following that inspection, it was determined that orders would be served on the owners of the property to make all necessary repairs to ensure public safety or to demolish the buildings.
The details of the orders can be found on the City’s 282-285 Ontario St webpage.
I want to thank those in the community who raised these concerns with the City and to assure them that the property owners will be held accountable to the orders that have been issued.
I know that the process of having this property redeveloped has been lengthy and frustrating for many. I share much of that frustration. For over a decade a great deal of time, energy and money has been invested in this site by everyone involved. While the orders issued today will not resolve the issues that have prevented redevelopment to date, I hope they will serve as the starting point for a constructive path forward.
In the meantime, the city will continue to work to support the future development of this property for the betterment of the community.
