
Volunteering isn’t just about giving back: it can also be about moving forward. At every stage of life, volunteering can be part of a healthy, active lifestyle while also helping to strengthen community.
Learn more about staying active through volunteerism at the 50+ Active Living Information Fair Monday, March 2 at the Dunlop Drive Older Adult Centre. Presented by the City of St. Catharines, with support from the Province of Ontario and the Older Adult Centres’ Association of Ontario, adults aged 50 and over, along with their family members, friends and caregivers, can explore resources focused on staying active, healthy and connected. More than 30 service clubs and community partners will be in attendance.
The 50+ Active Living Information Fair runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free.
2026 marks the International Year of Volunteers. Volunteer Canada states volunteering is a rewarding activity for older adults, adding enhances wellbeing and contributes to an active lifestyle.
Betty-Lou Souter, Chief Executive Officer, Community Care, St. Catharines and Thorold, will speak about volunteering at 10:30 a.m. Registered dietitian Leah Mete discusses healthy eating at noon. Mayor Mat Siscoe and St. Catharines MPP Jennie Stevens kick off the event with remarks at 10 a.m.
The 50+ Active Living Information Fair also features free hearing tests, free tea, coffee and snacks, giveaways and more.
