The City of St. Catharines is reinforcing compliance with the City Parking By-law to protect public safety and prevent damage to municipal property on Oakdale Avenue.
Today, in response to concerns for public safety and property damage, the City, with assistance from Niagara Regional Police Service, attended 80–100 Oakdale Ave. to address ongoing parking by-law violations and took the extraordinary action of towing six vehicles from nearby City property.
“I am glad to see the combined efforts of the City of St. Catharines and Niagara Regional Police has resulted in removal of vehicles from City property at a location known to the surrounding neighbourhood as a regular contributor to disorder near their homes,” said Mayor Mat Siscoe. “I look forward to continued enforcement efforts going forward.”
The City views towing as a last resort, used only after education, advisories, and other measures have failed. Despite these interventions over several years, parking violations persisted at the location, affecting public safety and quality of life in the area.
The presence of these vehicles has resulted in damage to public infrastructure and posed ongoing risks to pedestrian and vehicular traffic. The City is addressing community concerns by removing these vehicles and will continue to monitor the situation, taking appropriate action to maintain compliance with municipal by-laws, deter future violations, and ensure public safety.
