Five distinguished athletes and builders of sport in the city are set to join the St. Catharines Sports Hall of Fame.
The 2025 induction ceremony will celebrate athletes Doug Fast, Gema Kramer, Chris Leach, and Melissa Murphy St. Onge and builder John Haeni for their significant achievements in sport at the Hall of Fame on Thursday, October 30 at 5:30 p.m.
“We are proud to recognize these sportspeople for their commitment to advancing sports in our community,” said Peter Partridge Jr., chair for the Hall of Fame. “They have all put in an astounding amount of time, dedication and energy to excel in their sport and to mentor others to reach for their best.”
Everyone is welcome to the induction ceremony at the Sports Hall of Fame, located on the concourse level of the Meridian Centre, 1 David S. Howes Way. Doors open at 5 p.m. Admission is free and seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. A reception follows the ceremony.
The 2025 inductees will have their names added to the David S. Howes St. Catharines Sports Wall of Fame and receive a commemorative trophy and plaque. This year’s class brings the total number of inductees to the St. Catharines Sports Hall of Fame to 198.
Founded in 1990, the Hall of Fame recognizes the accomplishments of athletes and builders who have significantly contributed to the development of sport in St. Catharines, and who went on to success at provincial, national and / or international levels. To be eligible for the Hall of Fame, candidates must have been born or raised in St. Catharines or lived in the city during their sporting career.
“The dedication, resilience, and accomplishments of this year’s inductees have elevated their respective sports and deepened St. Catharines’ proud tradition of athletic excellence,” said Mayor Mat Siscoe. “We are honoured to celebrate their legacy and acknowledge the meaningful role they’ve played in shaping our city’s identity and uniting our community through the power of sport.”
The Hall of Fame is available for viewing during public events at the Meridian Centre.
