Phishing Scams Targeting Parking Payment Apps
We have received reports of phishing scams impersonating popular parking payment apps such as Honk and HotSpot. These fraudulent websites and ads are designed to trick users into providing their credit card information by posing as legitimate services.
Always download parking apps from official sources such as the App Store or Google Play. Legitimate parking payment apps, including Honk, are only available through these platforms.
Scammers often pay to have their fraudulent ads appear above legitimate search results on Google. These sites may look convincing but are designed to steal your payment information.
If a parking app asks for a credit card number upfront without requesting your parking zone or vehicle information, it is likely a scam. Genuine apps like Honk will always ask for this information.
All remaining coin-operated parking meters will be replaced by the end of June 2024 with Honk zones, making mobile payment more widespread across the city. To ensure your safety, please follow the above guidelines and report any suspicious activity.
Stay vigilant and park safely!
