The City of St. Catharines is inviting the community for help to update the Garden City Plan.
The City’s Official Plan, called the Garden City Plan, is more than 10 years old and needs updating to reflect current planning rules in Ontario. Everyone who lives, works and plays in St. Catharines is encouraged to have their say. Visit stcatharines.ca/UpdateTheGCP to learn about the City’s official plan, browse links to related reports and documents, find in-person opportunities to learn more, provide feedback and ask questions about the process.
The province requires every municipality to have an official plan for long-term land use and how a community grows. The City’s official plan guides growth in St. Catharines by setting out areas where housing, retail, jobs and green space can go, shaping the community we live in today and for the future. St. Catharines doesn’t need a completely new official plan, but updates are required so it continues to align with provincial plans, statements and guidelines.
City planners will be at the St. Catharines Farmers Market (91 King St) from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday Sept. 11th to discuss the project to update the Garden City Plan, explain how the official plan affects quality of life in St. Catharines and encourage residents to have a say in shaping the city’s future.
There will be more opportunities for residents to meet the planners at drop-in sessions over the next couple of months before public consultation wraps up in December. The City’s Engage page will be updated with dates and times for sessions at locations around the city including City Hall, the St. Catharines Public Library and the Seymour-Hannah Sports and Entertainment Centre. The City plans to present its draft Garden City Plan update at a special council meeting in January 2026.
