July 7 to 11: Ridley Road temporary closures

Please be advised that the City of St. Catharines, as part of a Niagara Region capital project, will be performing trenchless sewer renewal work on Ridley Road scheduled from July 7 to July 11, 2025, as part of Contract No. 2023-T-249. While some road closures and extended working hours are expected during this time, this sewer lining method will minimize the length of disruption compared to sewer replacement by open cut excavation methods.

The proposed schedule is weather dependant and work by Rankin Construction Inc. and their subcontractors will be completed efficiently to ensure roads are reopened as soon as possible. Rankin Construction Inc. will deliver separate notices to notify those properties that will have no driveway access. All sanitary will be pumped continuously down the system and no interruptions will occur to your sanitary lateral.

The unplanned disruptions to water services in your area that occurred from June 16^th to June 24^th  were the result of older infrastructure and the City of St. Catharines commends Rankin Construction Inc. who worked tirelessly to repair the infrastructure in addition to the new watermain work. Thank you for your patience during this time.

Full road closures are expected according to the following schedule and Figure 1 below:

PHASE 1 - 8:00 AM Monday July 7, 2025 to 5:00 PM Tuesday July 8, 2025 - Ridley Road closed at McDonald Street to Henrietta Street (one lane open on Dexter Street)

PHASE 2 - 8:00 AM Wednesday July 9, 2025 to 12:00 PM Friday July 11, 2025 - Ridley Road closed at Ambrose Street to Dexter Street

The St. Paul Street West CN Rail bridge closure detours are in place:

• Vehicle access Henrietta Street to Louth Street: Henrietta to St. Paul Street West; St. Paul to Pelham Road; and Pelham to Louth Street.
• Vehicle access Louth Street to Henrietta Street: Louth Street to Pelham Road; Pelham to St. Paul Street West; and St. Paul to Henrietta Street.

Work is expected to be continuous into night work periods on the following dates and will be performed under a Noise Bylaw 95-198 exemption:

• Monday, July 7, 2025 into Tuesday, July 8, 2025
• Thursday, July 10, 2025 into Friday, July 11, 2025

The night work will include construction equipment noise and sewer bypass pumps running with silencers.
