The Kiwanis Aquatics Centre has reopened to the public. As part of ongoing efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19 several health and safety protocols, including decreased occupancy limits and the requirement for pre-registration for all use of the pool. Please continue reading for more information on new operational procedures and limitations.

 St. Catharines Kiwanis Aquatics Centre COVID-19 Operations

 COVID-19-related safety procedures and operational limitations are in place:

  • Guests must register for all swims in advance via the ePlay portal. Please note it can take up to 48 hours to process registration for the portal
  • Lane swimming can be booked by calling 905.688.5601 ext. 1800
  • To ensure equitable access the City asks that visitors register for only one 50-minute swim session per day
  • Payment will be collected upon arrival
  • Face masks are required for all visitors when not using the pools and / or showers (children under five and those unable to wear a mask are exempt)
  • Guests must arrive 20-minutes early to complete pre-entry screening, sanitization and payment
  • Anyone displaying COVID-19 symptoms will not be permitted to enter
  • Change rooms will be open, but capacity will be restricted, and lockers will not be available
  • Guests are advised to arrive in swim attire.
  • Please undertake your post swim shower with shampoo and soap at home.
  • Viewing decks and areas are not open at this time
  • No pool toys is  permitted in the pools
  • No outside equipment is permitted
  • Lifejackets (PFDs) will be available and disinfected after each use
  • Flutter boards will be permitted in the lane pool only
  • Diving blocks are closed

What are the hours of operation?

Hours of operation vary. Please visit www.stcatharines.ca/swimming for the most up to date information.

 Arrival

The health and safety of the City of St. Catharines residents is the utmost importance. In compliance with the guidelines for opening aquatic facilities and for the health and safety of all guests, the following play standards are in effect:

  • You must book a spot to swim before you arrive. Go to www.stcatharines.ca/swimming.
  • Please arrive 20 minutes prior to your scheduled reservation in order to complete the screening, hand sanitizing, check in and payment process.
  • Please bring proof of reservation.
  • Guests will be provided 10 minutes to use the changeroom prior to and after their reserved program. Showers are limited to rinse off only.
  • On deck viewing is not available without paid admission.
  • Use of change rooms is limited use only; guests are encouraged to arrive wearing swimming attire and to change quickly and shower at home afterwards.
  • Hand dryers and swim suit spinners will not be available for use in change rooms.
  • Physical distance of 2m (6ft) must be maintained within the pool and on the pool deck.
  • Guests are asked to leave the deck without delay after each swim to allow for cleaning and disinfection before the next swim.
  • Lifejackets (PFDs) and belts will be available and disinfected after each use.
  • Water fountains will not be available; guests are encouraged to bring their own filled refillable water bottles.
  • All high touch areas will be closed including diving blocks.

  • Always follow directions provided by the lifeguards and aquatic staff.
  • Follow Ontario Health Regulation 565 requirements for public pools.
  • If you are feeling ill or have experienced diarrhea in the past week, do not use the pool.
  • Wear appropriate, clean swimming attire.
  • Patrons who do not have bowel control must wear plastic pants or swim briefs underneath their bathing suits. No regular diapers.
  • Always use caution; walk on the pool deck wearing clean footwear (street shoes are not permitted).

What are the capacity levels of the pools?

Capacity levels at all pools will be reduced to ensure safe social distancing. The capacity level of each individual pool will vary and is dependent upon the type of program being offered, size/depth of pool, deck area and the availability of lifeguards.

 

Is there a maximum swim time per visit?

Yes. To ensure equitable access to as many swimmers as possible the maximum length of each swim session will be 50 minutes.

 

What type of programs are being offered the first three weeks.

Lengths Swimming, Water Walking and Women’s Only will be offered in the lane pool during the first three weeks of operation.
Leisure Swimming, Soak and Stretch and Women’s Only will be offered in the leisure pool during the first three weeks of operation.

 

Will the schedule change after three weeks?

Yes. Beginning Sept. 21, 2020 additional programs will be added to the pools. These programs include fitness classes, swimming lessons, and some pool rentals.

 

Do you need to make a reservation to go swimming?

Yes. Leisure swim registration is available on line at www.stcatharines.ca/swimming

An account is required to register your leisure swim online. You can create one at https://forms.stcatharines.ca/PRCS/ePlay-Login-Request or sign in to your ePlay account to reserve your spot.
Residents can call 905-688.5601 x 1800 or email aquatics@stcatharines.ca for questions about how to register during regular business hours 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

 

Is there an admission fee to go swimming?

Yes, regular admission fees apply.

 

Do regular supervision and admission requirements for children still apply?

Yes. These standards can be found on the City’s website at https://www.stcatharines.ca/en/playin/Outdoor-Pools.asp.

 

Lane Swims

To help reduce the spread of COVID-19, lane swims will meet provincial health guidelines. This program is open to those who can swim 50 metres continuously. Regular swim admission standards apply. Spectators are not permitted on pool deck or in viewing area. Regular swim admission and supervision standards apply.
Single swimmer per lane. Swimmers are to swim on the black line.
Up to two social bubble members can share a single lane. The bubble lane can only be used by social bubble members. Each family member will be required to pay entry.

How to book your Lane Swim online:

  • NEW! Starting Saturday, September 26 at 9:00 a.m. Lane swim registrations will be available online for lane swims beginning Monday, September 28 at www.stcatharines.ca/swimming
  • When booking online please reserve 1 spot. To reserve a spot for a second social bubble member please call 905-688-5601 ext.1800. 
  • An account is required to register your lane swim online. You can create one at https://forms.stcatharines.ca/PRCS/ePlay-Login-Request or sign in to your ePlay account to reserve your spot.
  • Residents can call 905.688.5601 x 1800 or email aquatics@stcatharines.ca for questions about how to register during regular business hours 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  • Already have an account? Call 905.688.5601 x1800 to obtain your ID and PIN number.

  • Sign-up early. Participants can now book a spot for Lane Swim two days in advance. If swimming schedule begins at 5:30 am registration will begin at 9:00 a.m. two days prior.
  • Participants can book up to four swim times per week.
  • Explore the day, time and location of your choice.
  • The registration holds your spot. When arriving at the pool, you may show your membership pass, your activity card (clip card) or make payment at Guest Services.

As a result of COVID-19 program size restrictions and precautions, swim programs have a limited number of spots available. All registrants will be required to complete a health screening upon arrival at the facility. Anyone exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms will not be permitted to enter.

Members from the same household or social bubble should book a bubble lane in order to accommodate as many swimmers as possible.
To accommodate as many community members as possible we request that you only book one swim per day. Those booking more than one swim per day will be removed from all swims after the first time slot.

 Leisure Swims

Specific admission and supervision standards are in effect for this program. To help reduce the spread of COVID-19, leisure swims will meet provincial health guidelines. Pools will be divided into shallow, middle and deep areas. New protocols and reduced maximum capacity will be observed at all pools.

In response to COVID-19, what new rules and protocols will be in place?

Swimmers will notice several changes to typical operations at the indoor pools this season. These are being put in place to increase overall public safety.

  • During warmer days in September and October guests are encouraged to arrive wearing swimming attire and to change and shower at home afterwards
  • No pool toys in the leisure pool (pool games or pool noodles)
  • No private pool rentals
  • No swimming lessons or instructional classes for the first three weeks.
  • Guests will be asked to leave the deck after each 50-minute swim session to allow for cleaning and disinfection before the next swim
  • Lifejackets (PFD’s) will be available and disinfected after each use.
  • Flutter boards will be available for use in the lane pool only.

How to book your Aquatic Fitness (all Aquafit Classes), Aquatic Activities (Water Walking, Soak and Stretch), Leisure Swim and Women’s Only https://www.stcatharines.ca/en/playin/Recreation-Swimming-Schedule.asp:

  • Sign-up early. Participants can now book a spot two days in advance. If swimming schedule begins at 5:30 a.m. registration will begin at 9 a.m. two days prior.
  • Explore the day, time and location of your choice.
  • Login using the email and password to your ePlay account. If you don’t have an account, set up one at https://forms.stcatharines.ca/PRCS/ePlay-Login-Request (please allow two business days for processing).
  • Your spot will be held for you for up to five minutes while you complete the transaction. Each person in your party must register to be permitted to enter the pool and pool area. Anyone who does not register will not be permitted on the pool deck or in viewing area during leisure swim.
  • The registration holds your spot. When arriving at the pool, you may show your membership pass, your activity card (clip card) or make payment at Guest Services.
  • A receipt/confirmation will be emailed to you. Bring an electronic receipt with you to the pool as proof of reservation.
  • If you do not have access to the internet you may book a for Leisure swims, Soak and Stretch, Water Walking, Women’s Only by calling 905.688.5601 x 1800.

Do I need to wear a mask?

Yes. You will be required to wear a mask or face covering inside the facility and on the pool deck. A mask or face covering does not need to be worn when showering or swimming. Children under the age of five and those who are unable to wear a mask or a face covering as a result of a medical condition or disability are exempt. Physical distancing should always be maintained.

 

Drinking Water

All swimmers are encouraged to bring a plastic water bottle to stay hydrated, as water fountains will not be available. The Water Bottle Refilling Station in the lobby is available.

Will there be lessons?


Lessons are scheduled to begin on Sept. 21, 2020.

 

Will there be leadership courses?


Leadership programs, in a modified format, will resume after Sept. 21, 2020.

I want to bring my infant swimming; do we all need to register and pay?


Yes, please register in advance for everyone who plans to swim that day. Infants under three years of age will be able to register for free, providing their date of birth is accurate in the family account information. Go to www.stcatharines.ca/swimming.

I am accompanying an individual with a disability; do we all need to register and pay?


If you are accompanying as a support person for an individual with a disability, please register for a free Support Person Membership Pass that will allow you free entry to the program. Email aquatics@stcatharines.ca or call customer service at 905-688.5601 ext. 1800 to obtain the free pass.

Will there be lockers to keep my personal belongings?


No. Lockers will not be available and there will be limited use of change rooms, washrooms and showers.
Guests are encouraged to arrive wearing swimming attire and to change and shower at home afterwards.

Can I watch from the pool deck?

On deck viewing is only available during leisure swims for registered and paid swimmers.

I lost my personal item at the pool. Can I get it back?


The City of St. Catharines is not responsible for lost or stolen belongings. 
To protect the health and safety of all, lost and found items such as towels, bathing suits, goggles will not be kept. 
Please keep your valuables and personal belongings at home.

My swim was cancelled or interrupted – will I get my money back?

Yes, if a swim is cancelled or interrupted due to weather, mechanical or other issues, those registered will be issued a credit to their account.

I have a valid and current membership. Can I use it?

Yes! In order to use your current membership, email aquatics@stcatharines.ca to inform Guest Services of your intention to use your current pass.
We ask that our guests be patient with this process as it may take up to two business days to complete the process to enable your memberships.

I am not a resident of the City of St. Catharines. Can I come for a swim?

Yes, you are welcome to swim at the St. Catharines Kiwanis Aquatics Centre.

 

Guests with Membership Passes

Guests who are current membership pass holders, may choose to use their passes as payment toward the Lane and Leisure Swims. Current membership pass holders can:

  1. Keep their membership on hold until further notice – no action required
  2. Request to reactivate their membership pass to use. Email us at aquatics@stcatharines.ca (please allow two business days for processing)
  3. Request a prorated refund for their membership by emailing aquatics@stcatharines.ca. (Please specify if you wish for a credit to be placed on account or refund issued by cheque. Include your full mailing address).
