Planning and Building Services Open Houses

With City facilities closed, and in-person gatherings limited, in response to COVID-19 Planning and Building Services is moving to an electronic format for open houses related to important planning matters such as official plan amendments and zoning by-law amendments.

An Open House for a proposed Official Plan and Zoning By-law Amendment at 93 and 95 Lakeport Road and 9 John Street will be held electronically on Thursday, January 14 at 5 p.m.

The Applicant has requested that the subject lands be redesignated and rezoned to permit an existing non-conforming dentist office on 95 Lakeport Road to expand onto 93 Lakeport Road and 9 John Street. The existing land use permission on 95 Lakeport Road  is Community Commercial, which would not currently permit the existing dentist office use. The existing land use permission on 93 Lakeport Road and 9 John Street is for low density residential uses.

Additional, revised, or further refined information will be uploaded to the City’s website via the link above as it becomes available. 

Electronic Open House, January 14, 2021

Members of the public will be able to watch proceedings through the City’s YouTube Channel and will be able to participate as detailed below.

Residents can participate in the Open House in three different ways:

  1.  By submitting questions via mail or by email to the Planner ( no later than by Wednesday, January 13, 2021.
  2. By registering to participate via Zoom no later than by Monday, January 11, 2021. See below for more information on electronic participation.
  3. By registering to participate via telephone no later than Monday, January 11, 2021. Please call 905.688.5601 ext. 1716 and leave a message with your name and phone number; staff will respond to your voicemail prior to the open house to provide you with the call-in number and additional information.

Electronic Participation

Those wishing to participate electronically via Zoom video-conferencing technology must register by completing our online form before the date specified above.

Only one individual will be permitted to speak at a time and group delegations are not permitted. 

Participants are not permitted to share visuals or materials during the open house. However, materials may be submitted in advance for the Planner to share during the open house and must be received no later than January 13, 2021.

Delegates are required to participate in a test Zoom session with City staff. Testing will cover the audio and video quality of the participant's device; reviewing the process for the participant to join the meeting; and reviewing the participant process. During the test session, City staff will also discuss the process for submitting visuals or materials for inclusion in the Open House.  

The test session will be held Tuesday, January 12 at 10 a.m. The test session should take less than 15 minutes to complete. Note: other members of the public may be in the same test session. City staff will contact you via email with your test session information.
