Property Tax Deferrals for Homeowners
The City of St. Catharines offers a property tax deferral program for eligible seniors and individuals with disabilities. The program allows individuals to defer tax increases for the current year. Your property taxes must increase by a minimum of $200 from the previous year.
How to apply for a tax deferral
- If you're applying as a low-income senior, you must show proof of age and that you receive funding through the Guaranteed Income Supplement
- If you're applying as a low-income individual with disabilities, you must show proof that you receive funding through the Ontario Disability Support Program

Eligibility
To qualify for the property tax deferral program, you need to be a property owner as well as meet one of the following eligibility criteria:
- You are a senior receiving funding through the Guaranteed Income Supplement
- You are a low-income individual with disabilities receiving funding through the Ontario Disability Support Program
The following eligibility requirements also apply:
- Your property taxes have been paid in full for previous tax years
- Your property taxes have increased by a minimum $200 from year to year
Repayment must be made on transference of title of property, disposition of property or if applicant ceases to be eligible for deferral of taxes.
