The City of St. Catharines is now accepting applications from volunteer groups interested in hosting outdoor ice skating in their neighbourhoods this winter. Now in its eighth season, the City’s Community Outdoor Ice Rinks program enables volunteer community groups to build, operate, and maintain ice rinks in City-owned 
parks. Previous volunteer-run rinks have been located at Partridge Park, Bogart Street Park, St. Patrick’s Park, Walker’s Creek Park, and Port Dalhousie Lions Park. 

Pumpkinville returns this October for its 38th year, continuing a beloved fall tradition with another exciting lineup of activities and events for the community. The family-friendly celebration will be held on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Happy Rolph’s Animal Farm, 650 Read Rd. This year’s event will feature many activities, including a photobooth, LEGO printmaking, visits from special Toy Story characters, and a scavenger hunt. 

The City of St. Catharines 2026 Fall Tree Giveaway is set for Saturday, Oct. 24 and registration opens Wednesday, Oct. 7 for residents to claim their free tree.

The City is making it easier for residents to report issues and request City services online with the launch of its new Service Request Portal. The new portal – which can be accessed at stcatharines.ca/reportanissue - replaces the City’s existing Report an Issue online form, giving residents a more streamlined way to let the City know when something needs attention.

St. Catharines Fire Services is sharing a reminder with the community about the importance of safety when using lithium-ion batteries found in smartphones, tablets, power and lawn tools, laptops, headphones, toys and more.

This year’s Fire Prevention Week campaign theme ─ “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower! Plug in. Power up. Stay safe.” ─ aims to educate everyone on lithium-ion battery safety and safe charging practices, with the goal of bringing practical, easy-to-remember fire safety information directly into the community. Fire Prevention Week begins this Sunday, Oct. 4 and runs through Oct. 10.

The City of St. Catharines and St. Catharines Fire Services unveiled and celebrated the new St. Catharines Fallen Firefighters Memorial on Tuesday, September 29.

Last week, the City of St. Catharines was pleased to join Friends of Malcolmson Eco-Park for a blessing ceremony of a newly established Indigenous Healing Garden in Honour of Reconciliation in Malcolmson Eco-Park.
