Garbage and Recycling
Niagara Region is responsible for garbage and recycling services in the City of St. Catharines. Services include:
- Garbage collection
- Organics (green bin) and composting
- Household hazardous waste disposal
- Large item collection
- Landfill operations
- Recycling collection
Recycling Collection (Blue & Grey Box)
As of January 1, 2024, Blue Box and Grey Box recycling collection in St. Catharines is managed by Miller Waste Systems.

Changes for Non-Eligible Properties
On November 20, 2025, Niagara Region approved the discontinuation of curbside recycling collection for non-eligible sources, effective January 1, 2026.
This change applies to:
- Industrial and commercial properties
- Institutional properties
- Places of worship
- Non-profit organizations

Help keep our public spaces clean
We often create a significant amount of waste while enjoying public spaces, such as parks and beaches. Here are some tips you can follow to help us keep our public spaces clean:
- Put garbage in bins
- Recycle whenever possible
- Don't flick cigarette butts
- Pick up after your dog
- If you can't find a trash can, take your litter with you
Recycling in public spaces
We are involved in a public space recycling pilot project to reduce the amount of garbage and help reach our 65 per cent waste diversion targets. You can now find recycling bins throughout downtown, outside City Hall, Market Square, the Kiwanis Aquatic Centre and the Seymour-Hannah Sports and Entertainment Centre.
Waste By-law
The Waste Disposal By-law prohibits disposing of waste on certain lands in St. Catharines.
