72-Hour Kit for at Home
Essentials:
- Food (non-perishable, enough for 72 hours)
- Water (four litres per person per day)
- First aid kit and manual
- Flashlight and batteries
- Radio (battery-powered or crank) and extra batteries
- Candles and waterproof matches or a lighter
- Extra car keys
- Cash
Personal Items:
- Important documents and identification
- Clothing (including for cold/wet weather)
- Blankets or sleeping bags
- Personal hygiene items
- Medication (especially a one-week supply of prescriptions)
- Whistle
- Playing cards (or small games for morale)
Additional Recommendations:
- Cooking and eating utensils
- A copy of your home emergency plan
- Supplies for pets (see separate pet checklist below)
- Basic tools

- Food for 72 hours (include bowls and a can opener if needed)

- Leash, muzzle, harness
- Litter pan, litter, and bags for waste disposal
- Pet carrier
- Medical records
- Veterinarian contact information
- Medications and a pet first aid kit
- Identification tags and/or microchip number

- Flashlight (preferably a crank type)
- Small first aid kit
- Reflective safety triangle or flares
- Snow brush and ice scraper
- Traction aid (such as a bag of sand or kitty litter)
