City of St. Catharines to host telephone town hall about flood recovery and response on August 25

The City of St. Catharines will host a Telephone Town Hall on Tuesday, Aug. 25, to provide residents with updates on the City’s ongoing flood recovery and response efforts and answer questions from the community.

City officials will take part in the telephone town hall from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. A telephone town hall operates similarly to a radio call-in show. Rather than residents calling in, the City will call households across St. Catharines and invite them to participate in the live conversation.

City staff will share information about the City’s response and recovery since St. Catharines experienced three 100-year rain storms between July 21 and August 2 that resulted in more than 300 mm of heavy rainfall. The historic storms overwhelmed the City’s infrastructure, including roads and sewer / stormwater infrastructure, caused significant property damage, including shoreline erosion to private and public property and impacted thousands of residents in every part of the city. The town hall will also provide residents with an opportunity to ask questions directly and hear the latest information as recovery work continues across the city.

“We know residents continue to have questions as our community works through flood recovery,” said Mayor Mat Siscoe. “A telephone town hall gives us a simple way to connect with thousands of residents at once, share the latest information on our response and recovery efforts, and, just as importantly, give people an opportunity to ask questions and hear directly from the City.”

Anyone who wants to ensure they receive a call, add their name to the call list, request not to be called, or submit a question or comment in advance can do so by completing the form at http://www.stcatharines.ca/TTH. Residents who would like to be added to or removed from the call list must do so before Monday, Aug. 24 at noon. Those needing assistance can call Citizens First at 905.688.5600.
