Forestry Services

The 12-member forestry crew provides city planning, protection and maintenance functions. Maintenance of healthy trees, as well as public safety through pruning and storm damage, is the mandate of the Forestry Division.

Under the direction of the Forestry Foreman, the Recreation & Community Services Department has a preventative tree trimming maintenance system. This work is performed by a specialized tree crew and forms the basis of a computerized street tree inventory. The Forestry Division trims city-owned street trees using the International Society of Arboriculture (I.S.A.) standards.

Homeowners are not permitted to trim trees on city property in front or behind their homes. There may be an occasion when a tree becomes a hazard or liability to the public. This could be in the form of a low-lying limb or branch over the sidewalk or rooftop. When this happens call 905-935-3813 or 905-688-5601 extension 2120.
