Canada Geese

Feeding Giant Canada Geese has put us in a ‘Fowl’ Situation
Please Do Not Feed Them!

Giant Canada Geese number more than 200,000 in Southern Ontario alone. These birds have long ago ceased migrating south in favour of remaining here year-round, availing themselves of the generosity of people who feed them bread and grain. This breed of non-migratory geese has no natural predators here and left unchecked, its population will double in size every three years. As its population continues to grow, city parks and walkways are overrun by geese who soil and pollute the landscape, costing taxpayers thousands of dollars annually to rid the parks of goose droppings and tore-sod and seed ravaged grass. The only way to ensure the migration of Canada Geese is to stop feeding them, thereby forcing them to fly south, where natural sources of food are more readily available. In the interests of preserving our parks environments, please don’t feed Canada Geese.
