Downtown Parking Study Public Information Session March 5

Posted on Wednesday February 19, 2020

With improvements to the City's downtown parking system rolling out in 2020, and future changes being examined, a public information session on downtown parking will provide residents with a chance to learn about current and future changes.

Staff have collected information from the study, feedback from two public information sessions, online consultation, stakeholder input, guidance from the City’s Parking Advisory Committee and additional feedback.

In 2020 the City is moving forward on recommendations from the Downtown Parking Study, including:

  • Expansion of the mobile payment system
  • Upgrades to parking meters and pay-and-display machines
  • Rate increases from $1.50 to $1.75 an hour

Further changes being recommended by staff include:

  • Consideration of loading zone parking and on-street permit sales
  • No change to paid hours of operation, except for the Garden Park Lot
  • Extension of paid hours of operation at Garden Park from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • No change to the maximum on-street paid parking time

The public information session will take place on March 5 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., in Council Chambers at City Hall
