Project No. P17-123: Rehabilitation of the Pelham Road Bridge

Please be advised that the contract for the Rehabilitation of the Pelham Road Bridge at CN Rail Corridor, on Pelham Road, has been awarded, and the successful Contractor, Rankin Construction Inc., is tentatively scheduled to start work on August 21, 2020. The construction should take approximately 4 months to complete with final restoration being completed in the timeline, weather permitting.

The proposed project includes:

  • Bridge Rehabilitation.
  • Repaving of Pelham Road approach.
  • Construction of new parapet walls, various curb, and sidewalk.
  • Replacement of street lighting.

This work is tentatively scheduled to start on August 21, 2020, and in order to complete the rehabilitation of the Pelham Road Bridge safely and in a timely manner:

  • Lane reductions of Pelham Road will be required at the location of the structure for the duration of the project.
  • Hamilton Street at Pelham Road will be closed to vehicular traffic.
  • Vehicles may enter Monck Street from the northbound lane of Pelham Road only. Vehicles exiting Monck Street may only turn right.

The Contractor will co-ordinate to ensure Emergency Services has access to properties throughout construction. Please contact us if you have specific accessibility requirements or concerns.

Every effort will be made to maintain access to abutting properties and to minimize inconvenience to businesses, residents and pedestrians. A construction inspector, from Ellis Engineering, will be present on-site during construction and can be contacted for information.

The City of St. Catharines recognizes that construction is an inconvenience to residents and business owners. Every effort will be made to minimize any inconvenience to local residents and to carry out the work with as few interruptions to services as possible. We thank-you for your patience. Health Precautions
Residents should be aware that our contractors are required to strictly adhere to the health and safety guidelines for workplaces during the COVID-19 outbreak, as published by the Province on April 30, 2020, including the completion of daily self-assessments. Additionally, when possible, all efforts will be made to practice social distancing.
