Sign Permits ensure that sign structures within the City meet the standards set out in the Ontario Building Code, the zoning by-laws and sign by-laws for the City of St. Catharines and other applicable legislation.
In addition, anyone who is in violation of the city's by-law and does not comply with a notice that is issued by the city by-law enforcement office may be subject to legal action.
Signs placed illegally on City property are considered to be litter. As such, they will be removed and their components will be recycled or sent to landfill.
Portable signs in non-compliance may be towed at the owner's expense.
