Discharge of Firearms Enforcement

The Council of the City of St Catharines passed a by-law to regulate the discharge of firearms for the safety and security of the residents and community.

This by-law states that "no person, other than a Peace Officer in the lawful carrying out of his duties, shall discharge a gun or other firearm, an air-gun or spring gun or any class or type thereof within the corporate limits of the City of St. Catharines."

The by-law, passed by St Catharines City Council, is enforced by the Niagara Regional Police.

In case of emergency, call 911.

In the event of a prosecution, a conviction for this type of offence can result in a fine of up to $5,000 being imposed.
