Become a SCEC Client

Our clients typically start by attending some of our seminars and workshops. At these seminars and workshops they start to work with the SCEC team and enjoy networking opportunities with other aspiring business owners.

Once our clients have attended seminars, there is the opportunity for one to one consultations with the SCEC team. These consultations are often focused on business plan development

The Steps to Starting a Business Information Sessions include an introduction to the SCEC team and are a great first step in the process of starting a business.

Business Start-up Resources Available to you

When you become a client of the SCEC, you will have access to the following information:

  • Business start up guides, contacts, business plan templates, etc.
  • Financial and taxation information
  • Development of a marketing plan
  • General business information on cash flow forecasting, insurance, partnerships, incorporation and franchising
  • Guidance on conducting market research including: Industry trends and outlook information; market/demographic information; information on your local competitors
  • Business plan review services
  • Options for financing your start up

Register your business name

If you intend to operate your sole proprietorship or general partnership under any name other than your legal name, you are required to register the business name. Through this registration you will be given a Master Business License.

The process to register your business name is an online process that can be done at any time. You will require a credit card. The cost is $60 and the registration will be valid for five years. 

This registration allows you the rights to be able to use the name, but doesn't give you exclusive rights to the name.
