At its meeting of May 20, 2020, St. Catharines City Council passed the following motion regarding the Youth Task Force:
“WHEREAS the work of the Youth Task Force to plan WE Day Community St. Catharines has been on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic; and
WHEREAS the COVID-19 pandemic has forced the cancellation of many large public events, including WE Day Community St. Catharines, scheduled for fall 2020 at the Meridian Centre;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the student members and student leaders membership of the Youth Task Force, as at May 20, 2020, be disbanded; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that staff be directed to begin recruitment for student leaders and student members for the Youth Task Force once, at the discretion of the CAO, there is sufficient evidence that it is safe to resume holding large public events.”
Recruitment for the roles of Student Leaders and Student Members will begin at the discretion of the CAO. When recruitment begins, information will be posted on this webpage and the City's social media channels.
Statement of Purpose |
The Youth Task Force is responsible for planning, implementing, and coordinating funding (e.g. fundraising, sponsorship, etc.) for an annual youth forum. |
Composition |
The Task Force shall be comprised of up to 16 members as follows:

Reporting Structure |
The Task Force reports to Council through the Social Sustainability Committee. If required, due to event-related time constraints, the Task Force may report directly to Council. Administrative support to the Task Force shall be provided by Parks, Recreation and Culture Services, which shall assign a Secretary to the Task Force. Additional staff resources will be provided, as required from time to time. |
Membership Term |
Task Force LeadersTerm of Council, or as determined by City Council. Student MembersOne-year terms, coinciding with the school year. The Task Force Leaders will recruit and appoint the Student Members for one year terms, coinciding with the school year. The recruitment and appointment process shall be approved by the City Clerk to ensure fairness and transparency.

Other |
The Task Force shall conduct its meetings in accordance with and otherwise comply with the City of St. Catharines Simplified Meeting Procedures for advisory bodies. In accordance with these procedures, members may be removed from the committee if they miss three consecutive meetings or more than 50% of the meetings in a calendar year. |
