Advisory Committee on Older Adults

Statement of Purpose

The Advisory Committee on Older Adults is a volunteer committee established to:

  • Lead a review / update of the City’s Older Adult Plan
  • Support the implementation of the Older Adult Plan
  • Provide advice / comment on staff reports, strategies and project plans responding to the Older Adult Plan
  • Provide advice and support related to the City’s membership for the World Health Organization Global Network of Age-friendly Cities and Communities
  • At the request of Council, comment on strategic priorities, policies, programs, and initiatives that impact older adults.


The Committee shall be comprised of up to 10 members as follows:

  • Six citizen members which fall within one or more of the parameters of: older adult, professional, occupational, and/or social interest in the quality of life for older adults
  • One representative from each of the City’s three older adult associations
  • One representative from the Canadian Association of Retired Persons – Niagara

The Committee Chair, or designate, may be requested to attend the Niagara Age-Friendly Leadership Council meetings

Reporting Structure 

The Advisory Committee on Older Adults reports to Council through the Social Sustainability Committee. The Chair of the Advisory Committee will also be a member of the Social Sustainability Committee.

Administrative support to the Committee shall be provided by Parks, Recreation and Culture Services, which shall assign a Secretary to the Committee.

Additional staff resources as required from time to time will be provided by the applicable departments.

Meeting Schedule and Location

The Advisory Committee on Older Adults meets quarterly, or at the discretion of the Chair.


The Committee shall conduct its meetings in accordance with and otherwise comply with the City of St. Catharines Simplified Meeting Procedures for advisory bodies
