FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre Board

The mandate of the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre Board is to promote, develop and encourage the performing arts in the City of St. Catharines; operate the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre and associated business; and provide related services for the benefit of the City of St. Catharines.

Board Recruitment

Recruitment is now underway for two additional citizen members to join the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre Board. Roles and responsibilities of Board members include:

  • Establish strategic plan and annual goals and objectives;
  • Determine association policy;
  • Allocate resources through the budget;
  • Monitor progress;
  • Promote the organization;
  • Oversee the Executive Director; and
  • Fundraising.

Applicants with skills in law, human resources and accounting are most desirable at this time.

Board Member Eligibility

To be eligible to serve as a Citizen Member on the Board you must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Reside in St. Catharines, or be an owner, tenant of land (or spouse of same) for the duration of your term
  • Be one of the following:
    • Canadian Citizen; or
    • Permanent Resident, a person who has been given permanent resident status by immigrating to Canada but is not a Canadian Citizen, and has resided in St. Catharines for at least one year.

Applications to serve on the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre Board of Directors are due by Friday, Oct. 25 at 4 p.m. 


The Board will meet approximately 8 to 10 times a year or at the call of the Chair. Board meetings shall be open to the public, except for meetings or portions of meeting where the subject matter being considered is a matter permitted to be discussed in closed session pursuant to the provisions of the Municipal Act, 2001.

The Board of Directors will have no less than seven (7) and no more than nine (11) members and be comprised of:

  • Joseph Critelli
  • Peter Partridge Jr.
  • Councillor Carlos Garcia
  • Councillor Kevin Townsend
  • Scott Johnstone (Brock University Representative)
  • David Vivian (Brock University Representative)

Non-voting members 

  • Lloyd Smith (FirstOntario Credit Union Representative)
  • Shelley Chemnitz (Chief Administrative Officer - City of St. Catharines)
  • Kristine Douglas (Director of Financial Management Services / Treasurer - City of St. Catharines) or designate
