Bike to Work Week June 5-9

Discover the many benefits of active transportation by taking part in Bike to Work Week in St. Catharines June 5-9.

The City of St. Catharines encourages residents to try cycling as healthy way to get to and from work (and around town). Commuting by bicycle is a great way for residents to add exercise to their day. Commuting by bicycle also helps to:

  • Reduce stress.
  • Save money on gas and parking.
  • Avoid 'rush hour' traffic.
  • Reduce congestion on City roads.
  • Reduce pollution being released into the environment.
  • Discover City trails and bicycle paths.

Leave the car at home and enjoy the benefits of starting your day with a bike ride.

Bike to Work for your chance to win

Post a photo of you and your bicycle at work on Twitter using #BikeSTC during Bike to Work Week in St. Catharines for your chance to win a prize pack. One winner will be randomly selected from tweets with photos and using the hashtag between June 5-9.

Plan ahead 

Cycling can be a convenient way to get to and from work. Here are a few tips:

  • Make sure your bicycle is well-maintained and in good working condition.
  • Plan your route ahead of time. Try to use less busy roads or trails.
  • Know where you will park your bicycle. Make sure you have a bike lock if you need one.
  • Do a trial ride on the weekend.
  • Don't over dress. Dress in layers.
  • Ride at a casual pace.
  • Use a backpack for work supplies, belongings and extra clothing.
  • Drop off clothing for work at work ahead of time.
  • Be seen - make sure your bicycle has lights and reflectors.
  • Wear appropriate footwear and an approved helmet.
  • Follow the rules of the road.
  • Be aware - don't text and ride, and don't use head phones.
  • Have fun.
