As the City continues efforts in slowing the spread of COVID-19, the St. Catharines Farmers Market will operate on Thursdays 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturdays 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. with offering one entrance and one exit to the market with one direction foot traffic flow. Customer maximum occupancy of  50% in stage two of the reopening plan is set by the provincial government.  Food consumption is restricted to the picnic table area and the public is asked to fill out the contact tracing sheet when using. No food consumption is permitted in vendor areas.

Safety protocols are in place to protect the health and safety of market patrons and vendors. Please check out the 'COVID-19 and the St. Catharines Farmers Market' information below for more information on safety efforts.

About the St. Catharines Farmers Market

COVID-19 and the St. Catharines Farmers Market

Newly-introduced requirements and safety actions for customers include:

  • Admittance of only one customer at a time, pairs or groups are asked to have only one individual enter the market
  • At any time, entrance to the Farmers Market will be paused if congestion occurs.
  • Requiring of customers to sanitize their hands before entry
  • All customers and vendors must wear a face mask or covering due to limitations on other typical preventative measures such as sneeze guards. Wrapped scarves, bandanas and surgical masks will all be considered acceptable face coverings
  • No handling or sampling of food will be permitted
  • Maintaining a safe physical separation of two metres from other customers, including in the entry line
  • Distancing and traffic-flow lines will be clearly marked outside and inside the market
  • Reduced occupancy to ensure the maintenance of two metres physical separation between patrons

Vendors will also face a host of new restrictions and protocols to help limit the spread of COVID-19, including:

  • Mandatory use of face masks
  • Preferred use of electronic payments, cash payments will require a second individual whose sole duty will be handling of cash. Note that not all vendors are able to do electronic transactions. ATM's are closely located within a short walking distance on King St.
  • Maintaining a two-metre separation with patrons and fellow vendors who do not reside in their household
  • Prepackaging of products when possible
  • Hand washing / sanitization after every transaction
  • Frequent sanitization of surfaces
  • Self-assessment for COVID-19 exposure and symptoms

Market patrons will be directed on a set path through the market to ensure physical distancing can be maintained. Niagara Region Public Health requires one way traffic flow of the Market and one entrance / exit.
