Open Late Title

The Museum is Open Late until 8 p.m. on Tuesdays between May 22 and Oct. 2, 2018. Come explore and discover the Museum in a new light.

Open Late 2018 Events Schedule

2018 Open Late programs will stretch your mind and imagination all while discovering our City's expansive history.

All programs listed invite visitors to drop-in, no registration necessary. Museum admission and all programs are open by donation.

Out of the Vault, recurring 

In partnership with the Niagara Folk Arts Multicultural Centre, the Museum will exhibit objects from the Folk Arts’ collection throughout the duration of Open Late. New exhibits are featured bi-weekly. 

 

Canal Side Creations, July & August  

Tuesdays, July 3, 10, 31, and August  14 & 21
Anytime between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.

For children accompanied by an adult.

Families get a chance to imagine and create together at the Museum’s outdoor Discovery Park. Drop-by and watch the ships at Lock 3 while you create with variety of crafts and activities. 

 

Clay Creations with 4Cats Arts Studio, July 17

Tuesday, July 17, 
Anytime between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.

For children accompanied by an adult.

Play with clay! We team up with 4Cats Arts Studio to introduce children to the art of creating with clay. Taking inspiration from their surroundings at Lock 3, kids will get a chance to create Welland Canals themed clay artwork to take home. 

 

Great STC Build-A-Boat Challenge, July 24

Tuesday, July 24
Anytime between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
By donation

For children accompanied by an adult.

Test your engineering skills in this fun, city-wide challenge! We’ll provide the materials, and your job is to build the best boat. We will test what kind of shipping materials it can carry, and how much cargo it can hold. The competition will have a wide variety of categories for judging. Do you have what it takes to build-a-boat? 

Canal Paint Night, August 7

There is no better way to create a water colour painting of the Welland Canal than taking inspiration from the real thing! Using a canvas, acrylic paint, and other provided materials Children will use their outdoor surroundings of Lock 3 to create the perfect painting.

End of Summer Bash, August 28

We are closing out the summer with a big bash! STCM is your destination for fun with giant, oversized games outside, board games in the galleries, a popcorn machine, scavenger hunts, and so much more! 

 

Guided Canal Walks, September & October

Tuesdays, September 4, 11, 18, 25, & October 2
6:30pm start time 
By donation

Take a guided walk along the Welland Canal and discover the Canal’s impact on our local and national history, economy, and environment. We will also spend time at the newly unveiled Fallen Workers Memorial and share some of the harrowing stories of the 137 men who died building the Fourth Welland Canal.
