Join the City of St. Catharines as we celebrate Family Day virtually!

Our Family Day activities provide opportunities for those of all ages to find something of interest.

 St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Centre

Connect with your family virtually and join all sorts of online fun hosted by the St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Centre throughout the day. Each activity will streamed live on Monday, Feb. 15 to the Museum's Facebook Page, join our Virtual Family Day Fun Facebook Event to mark your calendar. 

10 a.m. - LIVE Virtual I-Spy Tour  

I-spy with my little eye, a museum exploration perfect for tiny tots. Join us for this brief, action-packed tour through the museum galleries and discover the fascinating artifacts on display. Click here to explore the Museum with our virtual I-Spy Tour.

11 a.m. - LIVE Virtual Creation Station  

Join us for a special Family Day creation the whole family can create together. Using a canvas, or even a simple piece of blank paper, and craft paint, your family can make your collection mark. Get your materials ready and click here to follow along with this Creation Station craft.

Materials Needed:

  • Canvas or blank paper, size of your choosing
  • Craft paint (colour of your choosing), or pencil crayons/markers
  • Paint brush or roller
  • Water container
  • Paper towel

1:30 p.m. - LIVE Artifact Unboxing

We take our popular Unboxing History series live and unbox an artifact storage box and uncover the fascinating history within. Click here to discover artifacts in the Museum collection.

2:30 p.m. - LIVE STC StoryLab Launch

We go live to officially launch the museum’s newest community project, STC StoryLab. We’ll unveil what this project is all about, and how you can get involved. Click here to find out what all the buzz is about.

 Arts and Culture

Noon - Indigenous Story-Telling and Artistic Response

Join us for lunch-time story-time and artistic responses on Monday, Feb. 15.

The story-telling video will be presented on the St. Catharines Culture Facebook Page. Find full event details and video links on the Facebook event here:

Joseph Shawana from the Niagara Regional Native Centre will be sharing an Indigenous Story-Telling, exploring the Anishinaabe Creation Story.

Then immediately after the story, join Michelle and Olivia who will present ideas for how you can create responsive pieces at home. Throughout February we will share ideas (also on Facebook) for how you can respond to the story through literary, visual and performing arts. You can also submit your works to us and we will share with the community on our social media (details coming soon).

Presented in partnership with the Niagara Regional Native Centre. Presented as an activation to the 2020 City of St. Catharines Juried Exhibit: "More than Words: Truth and Reconciliation." To learn more about the exhibit please visit:  



Family Day Water-Themed Experiments

Starting Friday, Feb. 12, follow along with members of the Aquatics team as they experiment with these quick water-themed do-it-yourself experiments for the entire family to enjoy! 

Gather the required objects and ingredients by viewing the Steps and Materials sheet. 

Do-it-yourself Thermometer

Have you ever wondered how a thermometer works? Construct your very own thermometer and watch the temperature rise and fall.

Fireworks in a Glass

Get ready to watch some fireworks! Only a few items are needed to create your own bursts of colour.

Grow Some Snow

Is it too cold to go outside? Or maybe no snow at all on the ground? Create your own glittery snow and build that snowman.

At-home Ice Fishing

Time to make some fishing poles. Experiment with the freezing point of water by going ice fishing in the comfort of your own home.


Baking with Monica

Starting Friday, Feb. 13, join Monica from the STC print centre for some family fun in the kitchen as she shares her favourite kid-friendly chocolate chip cookie recipe.

9:30 a.m. - Fictional Family Trivia

Using our popular Seniors Centre Without Walls platform, call in to answer trivia questions about your favourite fictional families. Pre-registration preferred. To register contact Simone Phelan or call 905.688.5601 ext. 1554

Family Telephone Conference Calls

 Special Events 

Starting Saturday, Feb. 13, and running the whole week of Family Day, the City will launch its first #StayActiveSTC Challenge: the Track Your Trails Challenge. These virtual games will challenge residents to get out and explore their City.
