DocuPet going door-to-door with City dog tag information

Posted on Tuesday March 13, 2018

DocuPet, which runs the online pet licensing program for the City of St. Catharines, will be going door-to-door to raise awareness about why residents need dog tags for their family pets.

Starting this week DocuPet representatives will go door-door between 9 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on weekdays to drop off hand-outs with information about the City’s dog licensing program at the homes they visit. The City partnered with DocuPet in 2016 to allow residents to buy dog licences online.

“There is a City by-law that requires residents to purchase licences for their dogs,” said Bonnie Nistico-Dunk, City clerk. “Proceeds from dog licensing funds important animal control services for our community. More importantly, if a dog becomes lost or injured, a dog licence gives the City the information it needs to contact the owner when a dog is found.”

Nistico-Dunk said DocuPet representatives will comply with new provincial regulations for door-to-door salespeople and will not be knocking on doors, ringing doorbells or selling anything at the door. DocuPet will not visit homes where dogs already have a City dog licence.

DocuPet representatives will be identifiable by their blue DocuPet clothing. They will discuss dog licensing with residents they meet while travelling through the neighbourhood.

Dog owners can visit to purchase dog tags online or for more information. Visit the Citizens First counter at City Hall (50 Church St.) to buy dog tags in person. Call 905.688.5600 with questions about DocuPet’s door-to-door campaign.
