  • Sunset Beach will be used temporarily to host beach volleyball rentals made originally for Lakeside Park.
  • The existing volleyball courts at Sunset Beach will be used and up to six temporary, portable nets will be added at Sunset Beach as needed by permit holders.
  • The temporary nets at Sunset Beach will be put up and taken down only for permitted bookings. The temporary nets will not be in place overnight.
  • Groups will be relocated back to Lakeside Beach once it is safe to do so.
  • Residents can call Citizens First at 905.688.5600 if they have any questions about beach volleyball.

Enhancements to Lakeside Park

Work to enhance Lakeside Park began in early 2017. The entire project will be complete by December 2017. This project was made possible with support through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program/Avec l'appui du Programme d'infrastructure communautaire de Canada 150, the Niagara Region's Lakefront Enhancement Program and the City of St. Catharines.

Upgrades to Lakeside Park include:

  • Replace pavilion
  • Renovate washrooms/concession
  • Electrical improvments (e.g. burying wires, improved lighting, etc.)
  • New accessible play structure

  • Addition of a new pavilion/band shell

  • Accessibility upgrades.

Update on Construction

  • High water levels in Lake Ontario will prevent the revitalized Lakeside Park from being ready for Victoria Day.
  • Staff and the contractor worked diligently to have the pavilion, band shell and renovated washrooms ready in time for the Victoria Day long weekend but due to the saturated condition of Lakeside Park and the rising water levels the park won't be ready until later this summer.
  • Water levels in Lake Ontario are at their highest level since 1918 and may continue to rise.
  • Construction on the band shell, pavilion and washrooms is continuing with the goal of being completed as soon as possible.
  • High water levels off Lake Ontario have prevented the contractor from completing work on the new electrical system and made it difficult to complete sidewalks, pathways and associated sod reinstatement.
