Labour Day weekend

The Labour Day holiday is Monday, Sept. 5. Here is what's open and what's not at the City of St. Catharines.

 City pools

The St. Catharines Kiwanis Aquatics Centre and the outdoor Lion Dunc Schooley Pool will be open.

Lion Dunc Schooley Pool closes for the season at 4 p.m. on Sept. 5.

 FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre

The Film House at the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre has a full weekend of screenings, including Maggie's Plan, a comedy featuring Greta Gerwig, Ethan Hawke, Julianne Moore, Bill Hader and Maya Rudolph, on Sept. 5 at 8 p.m. General admission is $9.

St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Centre

Enjoy exploring the museum galleries and watching ships travel through Lock 3 of the Welland Canal on Labour Day Monday, Sept. 5 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is by donation.

 Other facilities

  • Garden City Golf Course
    Go for the green at the Garden City Golf Course on Sept. 5 from 7 a.m. to dusk, weather permitting.
  • Happy Rolph's Animal Farm
    Visit Serafina, the newborn calf, and all the other farm animals from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Admission is free.
  • Lakeside Park Carousel
    One of the Garden City's most loved summer traditions, the carousel will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. After Labour Day, the carousel will be open on weekends only until Monday, Oct. 10.

  • Morningstar Mill
    The picturesque Morningstar Mill heritage site at Decew Falls will be open for tours from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.


The following City facilities will be closed:

  • City Hall

  • Enterprise Centre

  • Parks, Recreation and Culture Services administration offices

  • Seymour Hannah Sport and Entertainment Centre (open for a private booking)

  • Bill Burgoyne Arena and Garden City Arena Complex

  • Russell Avenue and Port Weller community centres

  • Dunlop Drive, Port Dalhousie and West St. Catharines older adult centres

  • Victoria Lawn Cemetery offices (visitation is always available from dawn to dusk)

St. Catharines Transit will be operating on a holiday schedule on Labour Day, Monday, Sept. 5. Transit will return to its regular schedule on Tuesday, Sept. 6.
