Canada Day holiday weekend

Canada Day is Friday, July 1. Join in the fun on with the City of St. Catharines' free Canada Day activities the whole family will enjoy.

Canada Day Celebrations at Rennie Park

Celebrate Canada Day with live entertainment, family activities and delicious cake pops Friday, July 1 at Rennie Park in Port Dalhousie.

Dominion Day Picnic

Enjoy old-fashion fun at the St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Centre during the annual Dominion Day Picnic Friday, July 1.

Pack a lunch to enjoy on the museum grounds and try croquet, sack races and other heritage picnic games. Meet historic "characters," visit the tea tent, enjoy music provided by our guest fiddlers and enjoy Canada-themed crafts and activities throughout the day.

Most picnic festivities run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Games, crafts and activities continue conitnue until 4 p.m. Admission is by donation.

The St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Centre will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. all weekend, including Canada Day, Friday, July1. Visitors can enjoy exploring the museum galleries and watching ships travel through Lock 3 of the Welland Canal. Admission is by donation.


 Free swimming


The City's outdoor pools open for the season Friday, July 1. Enjoy free Leisure swims on Canada Day at City outdoor pools and at the St. Catharines Kiwanis Aquatics Centre.

Free swim schedule

  • St. Catharines Kiwanis Aquatics Centre
    Leisure Pool: 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.,
    4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

    Lane pool: 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

  • Lincoln Park Pool
    11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

  • Lion Dunc Schooley Pool
    1 p.m. to 4 p.m., 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

  • Port Dalhousie Pool
    Big pool: 1 p.m. to 4:45 p.m., 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
    Small pool: 11 a.m. to noon; 1 p.m. to 4:45 p.m., 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

City splash pads at Lester B. Pearson Park and Catherine Street Park will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is free.

 Other facilities

  • Garden City Golf Course
    Go for the green at the Garden City Golf Course on Canada Day Friday, July 1. The City-run golf course will be open from 7 a.m. to dusk, weather permitting.
  • Lakeside Park Carousel
    One of the Garden City's most loved summer traditions, the carousel will be open Friday, July 1 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

  • Morningstar Mill
    The picturesque Morningstar Mill heritage site at Decew Falls will be open for tours on Canada Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre

    Looking to enjoy some indoor activities this weekend? On Friday, July 1 the Film House will be screening Endless Summer, a 1966 film documenting California surfers travelling the world in search of the perfect wave. The Film House has other screenings all weekend long. General admission is $9.

    Tickets are still available for the Canada Day showing of On a First Name Basis, a play written and starring acclaimed Canadian playwright Norm Foster. The performance is part of the Foster Festival, a theatre company showcasing the heart and humour of Foster's writing, taking place at the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre.


The following City facilities will be closed on Canada Day, Friday, July 1:

  • City Hall
  • Enterprise Centre
  • Parks, Recreation and Culture Services administration offices
  • St. Catharines Kiwanis Aquatics Centre
  • Seymour Hannah Sport and Entertainment Centre, Bill Burgoyne Arena and Garden City Arena Complex
  • Russell Avenue and Port Weller community centres
  • Dunlop Drive, Port Dalhousie and West St. Catharines older adult centres
  • Victoria Lawn Cemetery offices (visitation is always available from dawn to dusk)

St. Catharines Transit will be operating on a holiday schedule on Canada Day, Friday, July 1. Transit will return to its regular schedule on Saturday, July 2.
