Features
The St. Catharines Fire Services offers free guided tours of its six fire stations as part of its public education program. These tours are conducted by firefighters, and include the vehicle area of the fire station where visitors will have the opportunity to learn how emergency calls are received and equipment and personnel dispatched to the scene, as well as about the work and responsibilities of the firefighters, from station duties and training to water and gorge rescues.
Visitors will also be shown the various vehicles assigned to that station as well as the equipment carried in them, including firefighters personal protective equipment, such as breathing apparatus, and bunker gear.
Please keep in mind that tours are conducted in operating fire stations, by on duty staff. Tours may be delayed, postponed, or canceled at any time as a result of fire responses. At the start of all tours your group will be instructed on procedures to take in the event of an alarm; please ensure that everyone is aware of what action to take.
Groups larger than five or six may be broken up into smaller groups in order to improve on the tour. All groups with children must ensure adequate adult supervision is available at all times.
