St. Catharines Dragon Boat Festival

The Dragon Boat Festival happens annually in July. Each year, this fun event provides both short-term and long-term volunteer opportunities.

Volunteers are needed to sit on the festival's organizing committee, which helps with event preparations and fundraising. The organizing committee meets monthly from January to August.

Volunteers are also needed to help during practice week and on race day with registration, to assist boaters on the docks, in operations, acting as gophers, and more.

Pumpkinville

Pumpkinville is the City of St. Catharines' annual fall festival celebrating the season and Halloween. Volunteers are needed to help with a variety of activities, including pumpkin carving, scarecrow building and other children's games.

Volunteers are needed to help at pumpkin carving stations, scarecrow building centres, with facepainting, arts and crafts and parking.

Volunteers must be at least 15 years old and be available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011. A training and orientation session will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 11 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Market Events

The City of St. Catharines hosts several events at Market Square throughout the year. Events requiring volunteers include:

• Canada Day
• Santa Claus Parade

Volunteers are needed to help with stage management and project facilitation, serve as volunteer captains, assist in the set-up and execution of the event, to help with crowd containment and act as goodwill ambassadors to inform guests about the event.
