Beach Conditions

The City of St. Catharines monitors St. Catharines´ three beaches in partnership with Niagara Region Public Health Department. The purpose of this program is to sample water quality to determine whether the beaches are considered safe for swimming. The beaches are sampled seven days a week from June to September. The analyses of the water samples are carried out by the Ministry of Health.

Visit the Niagara Region Public Health Department website.

The Ministry of Health and Long Term Care and the Ministry of the Environment have established guidelines with respect to bacteria counts for recreational waters. To avoid the risk of health problems, these agencies have restricted swimming to those beaches with E. coli levels of less than 100 E. coli per 100 mL.
