A permit is required for a tent or groups of tents exceeding 60 square metres (645 square feet) in area. A group of tents refers to two or more tents which are located closer than 3 metres (9 foot 10 inches) to one another. A tent located closer than 3 metres (9 foot 10 inches) to another structure, will require a permit regardless of size. All tents regardless of size shall not be located closer than 3 metres (9 foot 10 inches) to the property line. Approval must be obtained from St. Catharines Fire Services for all tents open to the general public regardless of size.
Contact the Planning and Building Services department directly for information on air supported structures.
Two sets of complete construction drawings, drawn to scale, must accompany all applications for permits.
When a permit has been issued, City building inspectors conduct inspections for the levels of construction outlined on the issued permit; however, for complex projects (and some minor projects) a schedule of inspections may be required to be arranged with the local inspector.
It is the responsibility of the owner, or his or her agent, to call for inspections during certain stages of project construction. To arrange for an inspection, please contact the Planning and Building Services department at least 48 hours in advance to schedule the date for the inspector to visit your project.
All tent permits must also be inspected by St. Catharines Fire Services prior to use. Call St. Catharines Fire Services at 905-688-5601, ext. 4224 at least 48 hours in advance to schedule the date for the Fire Inspector to visit your project where a permit is not required.
