A permit is required to install any new HVAC system (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) or alter existing HVAC systems.
All HVAC tests and inspections must be made by City of St. Catharines HVAC Inspectors in accordance with Part 6 or Part 9 of the Ontario Building Code requirements before the work is concealed by floor or wall finishes. Inspection is also required once all duct work and/or appliances are installed and before they are put into service.
Two sets of complete construction drawings, drawn to scale, must accompany all applications for permits.
When a permit has been issued, City HVAC inspectors conduct inspections for the levels of construction outlined on the issued permit. However, for complex projects (and some minor projects) a schedule of inspections may be required to be arranged with the local inspector.
It is the responsibility of the owner, or his or her agent, to call for inspections during certain stages of project construction.
To arrange an inspection, please contact the Planning and Building Services department at least 48 hours in advance to schedule the date for the inspector to visit your project.
