Councillor Kushner is committed to controlling taxes. To do, so we must set priorities just as our residents do and live within our means. Basic services must be maintained and only if there are sufficient funds, "wish list" services should be considered. High taxes discourage new job creation and make it difficult for residents to maintain their homes, especially young families and retirees.
Councillor Kushner is also committed to preservation of our neighbourhoods from student housing and inappropriate infilling. Student housing should be redirected to the downtown and bylaws enforced more stringently. West St.Catharines should be revitalized to meet its potential.
Councillor Kushner continues to be committed to representing the views of the residents of St. Andrew's ward. He has never accepted a donation from anyone, which means his commitment is to residents and not to special interest groups and campaign donors. Joe will vote to maintain the ward system and is opposed to replacing part-time councillors with full-time politicians.
