Canada 150 Anniversary Task Force

Statement of Purpose

Canada's 150th Task Force has been established to provide recommendations to council related to ways the
City of St. Catharines can mark Canada's 150th anniversary in 2017.


That this Task Force be made up of no more than twelve (12) members with additional participation possible through project specific sub-committees and event specific volunteers.

Community Representation:

  • Rodman Hall Arts Centre
  • Historical Societies
  • Heritage Committees
  • Chamber of Commerce
  • Service Groups - including Legion, Rotary, etc.
  • Folk Arts
  • First Nations community
  • French language community
  • Tourism associations
  • Brock University and Niagara College
  • School Boards
  • Members of the community at large

City Representation:

  • City Council
  • PRCS staff - Historical Services, Cultural Services and Parks and Recreation
  • Planning and Building Services Staff - Municipal Heritage Committee

Term of Appointments

Canada's 150th Task Force will exist until the end of 2017.

Reporting Structure

This Task Force is an ad hoc sub-committee which would report through the Museum Advisory Committee to the Cultural Sustainability Committee.

Schedule of Meetings

As required to complete committee and sub-committee work.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  1. Create a well-defined vision of what the celebration hopes to achieve for the City of St. Catharines;
  2. Develop a plan to implement that vision;
  3. Develop an inclusive proves of stakeholder and community consultation;
  4. Complete funding applications as required and provide support to community applications to mark Canada's 150th anniversary
  5. Stimulate corporate and volunteer sector initiatives, including financial involvement;
  6. Encourage the participation of diverse groups;
  7. Organize, develop and manage complex projects and events;
  8. Develop and implement a communications plan.
