The St. Catharines Sports Hall of Fame was founded in 1990 to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of both women and men, athletes and builders who have significantly contributed to the development of sport in St. Catharines and went on to success at Provincial, National and/or International levels of competition.
The St. Catharines Sports Hall of Fame started as a display containing the names and biographies, as well as some select memorabilia and, until 2012, found its home at the St. Catharines Museum. The memorabilia donated by inductees is still on display at the Museum.
In January of 2012, the Sports Hall of Fame committee, with the help of Mayor Brian McMullan, officially unveiled the St. Catharines Sports Wall of Fame, located at Seymour-Hannah Sports and Entertainment Complex. The wall contains the names of the Hall of Fame Inductees, viewed by over 500,000 visitors each year.
To coincide with the opening of the Meridian Centre in the fall of 2014, the St. Catharines Sports Wall of Fame has been moved to the Meridian Centre and will be a part of the new St. Catharines Sports Hall of Fame. The new hall will be located on the third floor and will include a space of over 1,000 square feet. The St. Catharines Hall of Fame will showcase a greater selection of the memorabilia collection for viewing by the public during events at the new Spectator Facility.
