Exhibits at City Hall

City Hall represents the political and administrative centre of the City of St. Catharines and is a primary showcase for the City's art collection. Public spaces within City Hall display art work from the City's collection, the Mayor's Gallery of photos, cultural property relating to official state visits, the Gallery of City Councils Past and Present and more. They are all on display for the enjoyment of the general public.

An exhibit space on the second floor of City Hall offers temporary exhibits of original art, historic photos or cultural treasures that reflect St. Catharines' stories, creative self-expression, experiences and perspectives. Each year, three to four new exhibits are displayed on a rotating basis. These exhibits are co-ordinated by the City's Cultural Services office with support from the Public Art Advisory Committee.

The most emotionally intense colour, red stimulates a faster heartbeat and breathing. It is the colour of love. It can be found on flags or signify political movements; it is blood and anger, courage and sacrifice. It can be found in science and in nature and evokes symbolic meaning identifiable around the world. Red can evoke meaning across a variety of media and interpretations, understood through a lens of realism or approached via abstraction.

What do you see when you see RED?

RED: An Exploration of the Most Primary of Colours is an initiative of the City's Public Art Advisory Committee and the City of St. Catharines. It is the 25th exhibit presented at City Hall.
