Exhibits at City Hall

City Hall represents the political and administrative centre of the City of St. Catharines and is a primary showcase for the City's art collection. Public spaces within City Hall display art work from the City's collection, the Mayor's Gallery of photos, cultural property relating to official state visits, the Gallery of City Councils Past and Present, and more. They are all on display for the enjoyment of the general public.

An exhibit space on the second floor of City Hall showcases original art, historic photos andcultural treasures that reflect St. Catharines' stories, creative self-expression, experiences and perspectives. Each year, three to four new exhibits are displayed on a rotating basis. These exhibits are co-ordinated by the City's Cultural Services office with support from the Public Art Advisory Committee.

Beyond the Wall: Unpacking the Layers of St. Catharines’ Walls
City of St. Catharines' 9th Annual Juried Art Exhibition
April 22, 2013 – August 16, 2013

Opening Reception: Thursday, April 25 at 4PM

Walls are taken for granted. They are there for good or ill, shelter or defense. Walls can be built, torn down, climbed and breached. Walls have ears; there's a "fly on the wall." People can be inside the wall, outside the wall, on the wall, up against the wall, driven up the wall, they can hit the wall and beat their heads against walls. Walls can divide; walls can protect. They can be built of varied material and hold places in history.

Fourteen local artists explore the walls of our community and the marks they have made on our lives.

Artists: Danny Custodio, Gillian Dickson, Jennifer Gruhl, Ariadni Harper, Susan Kyle, Jan Low, Kathy McBride, Paul McLagan, Darlene Monroe, Kim Rempel, Amanda Rotella, Jan Yates, Elizabeth Zapotoczny and Crystal Zettel.
